Review
All I can say is WOW. Beneath the Burn took my mind on a journey that it has only been a couple of times while I was reading a book. I really thought that I was seeing a movie being unfolded before my eyes. The book was so intense and thrilling that the readers do not need to go and get an adrenaline thrill anywhere while they read this book. When I started the Beneath the Burn I wasn’t expecting it to go the rote that it did, the whole sick twisted mind of Roy was written so well that you have no other choice but to hate the monster that he is to Charlee. He was the typical rich boy who grew up with no one telling him no & he is so power hungry he also thinks that everything and everyone belongs to him. But you also learn the reason he is the ways is, because he is used to seeing his father treat women and people like dirty and that because they had all this money they were superior to everything. As for Charlee she didn’t have any choice in the matter of her and Roy’s “relationship” because of what her father did to her. But once Charlee meets Jay everything changed, for both her and Jay. Jay grew up in an abusive household with his aunt, it has this thing where he doesn’t want anyone touching him but Charlee was the only person who did and since that day they couldn’t seem to stop thinking about each other. I loved it when both of started a friendship because they were laughing and joking with each other and that was something that the both of them wasn’t use to. It’s crazy because Roy really thought that he was in love with Charlee when all it was he was obsessed with her. Jay & Charlee showed a growth in their relationship with very palpable. All in all, this book has me thinking that I was watching a movie; Pam did a great job of painting a very clear picture for her readers. This book is one of the few books that I think I might have to re-read again. Great job from Pam Goodwin, five star review folks.
Excerpt
A woman with a white-blonde pixie haircut backed out of the shop and dammit if he couldn’t stop himself from gawking. She was slender, but not in a bones-pressing-skin kind of way. She had a figure that could only be toned with good nutrition and rigorous activity. Oh yeah, she was built for stamina. She locked the door, and turned toward him, tipping back her head.
The bluest eyes he’d ever seen stared up at him. They were ringed with navy and glimmered with silver flecks. They were also wide with...fear? No, that couldn’t be it if her smile were anything to go by. Her beautiful face seemed to swallow up the glow of the streetlamps, the passing headlights, the goddamned moon.“Hi.” Her smile wavered. “You look lost. Can I help?”
Oh Christ, her voice. It was the complete package, like the full-bodied Fsus2 chord humming from the hole in his Martin Acoustic. Gentle, cool, hypnotic—“You’re lost, right?”She had no idea. “Just found what I’m looking for.” Smooth, Jay. What the hell was he doing?
Character Interview (Charlee & Jay)
Hey Charlee & Jay how are things going with you guys?
Jay: It's busy as hell. Producing a new album. Preparing for the next tour...Charlee's hand in mine every day. Life is good.
Charlee: I can't inhale enough freedom. My world is bursting with it. It's beautiful thing.
Did you guys set a wedding date yet?
Jay: Yesterday
Charlee: Tomorrow
Charlee, when The Burn goes out on tour do you plan on going with them all the time or just some of the time?
Charlee: Everytime. I wouldn't miss it. Besides, there are tattoo clients aplenty aboard those buses.
I know these days are happy days for you & Jay but do you still get flashbacks of all the traumatic experiences from your pass? If so, how are you dealing with them?
Jay: Nope. Not a single flashback. I found my cure.
Do you guys see yourselves have any children in the near future?
Jay: We're not planning anything, but Charlee has made all futures possible. Even blue-eyed daughters.
